International Guest Information

The 2020 FITASC 42nd World Sporting Championship is coming to Ridgeland, Mississippi. This prestigious tournament takes place on July 16 - 19, 2020 at Providence Hill Farm. For our international guests planning to come to Ridgeland for this exciting event, we have compiled some useful information to help you enjoy your stay.

Language and Culture

English is the language of Mississippi, though international guests should note the language is spoken with a southern drawl. This means that words are often drawn out with long vowels or merged together quickly. If there is trouble understanding a statement, kindly ask that it be repeated.

Time Zone

Mississippi is in the Central Daylight Time Zone (CDT) UTC/GMT -5 hours.

Summer weather in Mississippi is warm and humid with daytime highs ranging an average of 90 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit or 32.22 to 36.11 degrees Celsius. Travelers are STRONGLY advised to frequently consume water. Air conditioning will be utilized heavily in establishments to combat high temperatures.

The currency in Mississippi is the US dollar (US $). Banknotes come in denominations of US $1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollars. There are 100 cents to each dollar with coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, and 25 cents. Many establishments will take major credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard.

Travelers are STRONGLY advised to exchange currency before arriving as many local banks do not carry foreign currency. Guests may find that ATMS located throughout the city may be used to exchange currency.

Mississippi uses electricity at 110-120 V, 60 Hz. Flat two-prong plugs are typical, so it is recommended to travel with a universal plug adapter.

Air Conditioning

Air conditioning will be running in a majority of restaurants and other establishments to combat outside temperatures. Travelers are advised to bring a light sweater, jacket, or wrap while dining.

Reservations & Wait Times

Travelers should be mindful that not all restaurants take reservations for dining. These establishments are on a “first come, first serve” basis where guests may have to wait a designated period of time before being seated at a table. Restaurant wait time may vary depending on time of day. On average, lunch wait times range from 5-20 minutes while dinner times may vary between 10-35 minutes.

Hours of Operation

Many local restaurants operate from the hours of 11am to 10pm with the exception of breakfast establishments that may operate as early as 6am. Restaurant hours are commonly listed on the front restaurant entrance or online. Restaurant hours may be extended on the weekends. Restaurant kitchens may close 10 – 15 minutes before the establishment’s dining room closing time.

Restaurant Service & Tipping Etiquette

It is custom to tip waiters 15 – 20 % of the pre – taxed dining bill. Tips can be left in cash amounts directly to your waiter or can be added to the dining bill via credit card. Should you have questions regarding this practice, please speak with a restaurant manager.
