It’s the 12th Annual Township Jazz Festival on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Township at Colony Park. This is a free, family-friendly music festival! This year’s featured act is the Grammy Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band, the undisputed king of New Orleans brass bands. Rebirth Brass Band will be taking the stage from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Covered seating will be available with blankets and lawn chairs welcome. Food and beverage vendors will also be available, so please no coolers or tents.

Fusion Coffeehouse All-Stars
1:00 pm – 1:40 pm
Top musician’s from Fusion Coffeehouse’s monthly series “The Jazz Spot” perform. See local favorite’s Barry Leach, Raphael Semmes, Todd Bobo and more!

The Vamps
1:50 pm – 2:35 pm
Mississippi’s premier soul Jazz group led by guitar virtuoso Barry Leach and featuring vocalist/percussionist Adib Sabir.

Rebirth Brass Band
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Formed in 1983 by the now infamous Frazier Brothers, Rebirth Jazz Band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. Their rich NOLA sound garnered the band a Grammy on their 2011 release, “Rebirth of New Orleans.” Rebirth committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands while at the same time incorporating modern music into their show. Their signature brand of funk brass has won over generations of music lovers, and in a post-Katrina world, their name and music have become the soundtrack to their musically rich hometown. Treat yo’self to some Rebirth Brass Band!

Delfeayo Marsalis & Uptown Jazz Orchestra
4:20 pm – 5:20 pm

Trombonist Delfaeyo Marsalist (of the famed NEA Jazz Master family) headlined the 2014 Township Jazz Festival with his Jazz combo…and now he’s back with his big band. Marsalis’ hard-swinging Uptown Jazz Orchestra is a mainstay in NOLA Jazz clubs like Snug Harbor. Always a grooving time with this band which features Jackson native and Fusion Coffeehouse alumnus Scott Johnson.

Astral Project
5:35 pm – 6:35 pm

For more than 30 years, Astral Project has delighted audiences around the world with their unique brand of cutting edge improvisation and near telepathic interplay over deep NOLA grooves. These four artistic masters return the Township Jazz Festival by popular demand.

Southern Komfort
6:35 pm – 6:55 pm

One of the ‘Sip’s favorite big brass bands will close out the festival with their traditional march through The Township to the steps of Fusion Coffeehouse.
