The 2020 Mississippi Cyclocross Series is on, with Spooky ‘Cross set for October 31 and November 1 and Cyclocross Festival later in November on the 21 and 22. These outdoor, social-distanced, fresh-air races are FREE for kids making for a fabulous way to spend a fall weekend.
Just what is Cyclocross, you may ask? Way back in the 1900s, Europeans developed cyclocross as a way for road racers to stay fit during the fall and winter seasons. Cyclocross courses are usually 1.5 to 2-mile loops on both paved and off-road surface over flat-to-rolling terrain where obstacles require the riders to dismount and run while carrying their bikes. It’s this combination of cycling, carrying, running and scrambling over obstacles that make cyclocross a great workout and a whole lot of fun – for kids and grown-ups alike!
