Mississippi Craft Heritage is an official Mississippi Bicentennial event celebrating the evolution of craft skills and craft art in the state over the past 200 years. This monumental event will be held at the Mississippi Craft Center in Ridgeland on Saturday, October 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Free admission!
And while you’re there, don’t want to miss the big Mississippi Tailgate Party fundraiser! Enjoy the best in tailgate food and Mississippi-made beverages like Cathead Vodka and craft brews from Lazy Magnolia Brewery and Lucky Town Brewing Company. Brick Street Fusion, Steve Barney, George Dyson and more will be providing live entertainment. Tickets to the Mississippi Tailgate Party fundraiser are $25 per person or $20 per person in advance. For tickets, call 601-856-7546. Proceeds from the Tailgate Party benefit the Craftsmen’s Guild Education Fund.
Free festivities for day include living history portrayals for a glimpse of life in Mississippi during the 1800’s. Guests can tour the Craft Center’s blacksmith shop, pottery studio, and wood shop for demonstrations illustrating the evolution of craft materials, techniques and tools. The Chimneyville Spinners & Weavers and the Metro Jackson Quilters will be on hand demonstrating these traditional and contemporary crafts.
Children and the young at heart will have a blast at the Creation Stations where guests can make their own works of art. There’ll be old-fashioned games like horseshoes and the ever-popular corn hole.
